Originally from Toronto, Ontario, Char Hodgkins, the Founder and Artistic Director of Octet Victoria, has been a professional chorister for over fifteen years. They have sung with numerous ensembles across Ontario, including The Elora Festival Singers and the Ottawa Bach Choir.

Since moving to Victoria in 2019, Char has contributed to the growth of Victoria’s choral community while continuing to develop their own musical practice in conducting and directing. They are particularly passionate about sacred choral music and enjoy their role as Assistant Director of Music at St. John the Divine Anglican Church, where they work alongside David Stratkauskas. Since 2023, Char has also served as Co-Conductor of Vox Humana Chamber Choir.

Char holds a BFA with a major in Classical Voice from York University. When they’re not making music, Char tree-plants and works at a coffee shop.
